How To Block or Unblock Someone On Threads

Even with a new social media platform, bullying and abuse remain persistent. We have all encountered bullying on social media to the point where we are disturbed by that person’s presence. Threads is a new social media app by Instagram that allows users to converse through text. Even though new, cyberbullies have made their way to Threads. If anyone on Threads is bullying or abusing you, you can block them. Let’s discuss how you can block someone on Threads. 

How To Block Someone On Threads

When you block someone on Threads, they will no longer see your profile on Threads. They won’t be able to interact with the posts on your Threads profile, like them, comment on them, or even repost them. There are three ways to block a profile on Threads; you can do it by searching their profile name, through your followers/following list, or by blocking on Instagram. 

By Searching For Profile

If you know the username of the person, then you can search for them on Threads and block them. Here’s how-

• Open the Threads app on your phone. 
• Tap on the Search icon at the bottom bar. 

• Search for the person and open their profile.

• Tap on the Three dots at the top right corner. 

• From the menu that opens up, tap on Block.

• You will get two options now-
  • Block [user] and other accounts they may have or create– This will block the user and all the accounts they might have created. 
  • Block [user]– This will block the user but not other accounts they have created. 

• Select either of the two options and then tap on the Block button. 

By Followers/Following List

If you want to block someone you are following or a follower of yours, then you can follow the steps given below to do so-

• Open the Threads app and head to your Profile page by tapping the Profile icon at the bottom left corner. 

• Tap on the Privacy icon at the top left corner. 

• Now, tap on the Profiles you follow. 

• If you want to block someone you are following, tap the Following option at the top. If you want to block a follower, then tap on Followers. 

• Now, tap on the profile you want to block on Threads. 
• You will see Three Dots at the top right corner; tap on it. 

• Now, tap on the Block option. 

• You will see two options, i.e., Block [User] or Block [User], and other accounts they may have or create. 

• After selecting one of the two options, tap on Block. 

From Instagram

Another way to block someone on Threads is by blocking them on your Instagram account. Your Instagram and Threads accounts are connected, so people you blocked on Instagram will be automatically blocked on Threads and vice versa. Here’s how you can block the person-

• Open the Instagram app and sign in to the same account you use on Threads. 
• Search for the account you want to block and open it. 

• Tap on the Menu icon at the top right corner.

• Now, tap on the Block option.

• You will see two options now-
  • Block [user]
  • Block [user] and other accounts they may have or create. 

• Tap on Block to block the account or Block and report to block the account and report them. 

How To Unblock Someone On Threads App

If you decide to unblock someone from your block list on Threads, then you have the option to do so. Before you go ahead, know that unblocking the person on Threads will also unblock them on Instagram. Follow the steps given below to unblock someone on Threads-

• Open the Threads app and tap the Profile icon at the bottom right corner. 

• Tap on the Privacy icon at the top left corner. 

• Now tap on the Blocked option. 

• You will see all the people you have blocked on Instagram and Threads.
• Search for the profile you want to unblock. Tap on the Unblock icon next to the profile to unblock them. 

• Tap on Unblock again to confirm unblocking them.
