Subaru cars are typically made to last longer. However, that usually doesn’t mean the electronic and tech components will also last that long. While the earlier models of Subaru didn’t feature even a music system, the models that came after 2015 have every bells and whistles one would expect from their new cars. Nevertheless, if you have a new Subaru car, it might have a touchscreen infotainment system. Recently, a lot of owners stated that the Subaru touch screen is not working.

Although the users didn’t mention their car model or variant, we assume it is a generic issue. As a result, for all the Subaru owners out there who are facing the touch screen not working issue, here’s our guide to help them out.

How to Fix Subaru Touch Screen Not Working

Why is Subaru Touch Screen Not Working?

Your Subaru touchscreen may not be working simply because it is dirty. Even though people use their cars with air conditioning, being on the road makes the car susceptible to potential dust and debris. Furthermore, during the rainy season, the dust and debris combined with the moisture in the air make a firm screen above the touch screen. This makes the touch screen irresponsive and also laggy sometimes.

On the other hand, there can be a TFT fault which is not letting the system register your touch. If hardware buttons are working, you can rest assured that your system doesn’t have any fault, but only the TFT has, and that can be easily fixed by a local professional.

Finally, if you see a completely blank display every time, even after restarting your car, that means there’s a blown fuse. The fuse box is usually under the multi-information cluster, under the steering wheel.

If you can reach there, you can check which fuse is blown and replace it. However, depending on your car, if it is unreachable, it is better to reach out to the nearest authorized Subaru service station.

Fix Subaru Touch Screen Not Working, Stuck or Not Responding

If your Subaru Touch screen is not working, you may be tempted to visit the service center. However, before you do that, spend a fortune, and try these preliminary fixes so that the guys at the service center cannot fool you.

Fix 1: Clean the Screen

The easiest and probably the best way to fix a not working Subaru touch screen is to clean it. The better you clean, the better chances you have of a working touch screen.

Furthermore, an ordinary wiping won’t work. You will have to take a dedicated screen cleaning liquid; sometimes, deodorant also works. Spray that nicely all over the display and clean with a microfibre cloth to avoid scratches.

Once you have cleaned it, restart your car and check whether the touch screen is working again. If not, follow up with the next fix.

 Fix 2: Restart Your Car

If cleaning the car isn’t helping, you should probably restart your car. Restarting your car is always helpful in cases where the audio system is completely unresponsive. Depending on your vehicle, you either have a start-stop button or a key hole, turn off your car, get out of it, and close the doors.

Now lock it using the key, and after one minute, unlock it. Now, restart your car and check whether the touch is working. If it is working, then great; else, move on to the next fix.

Fix 3: Use the Hardware Keys

Often, Subaru cars have hardware buttons beside the touch screen. If things are not working, you can use the hardware keys present beside the touch and check whether it is working or not.

If the information system is absolutely unresponsive, then there’s a critical fault that cannot be fixed by you. However, if the system is working with the button, your system is alright, but the touch is only at fault. You can try again after cleaning your hands.

Fix 4: Power Supply Problem

Even after following the above fixes, if your touch screen is not working till now, it is possible that there’s a problem with the touch screen. The cause of the problem can be routed back to either the fuse box or the power supply.

However, if you are able to see things on your display, that means the fuse is not blown. Nevertheless, you can be sure that the touch screen power is blown. You cannot fix this alone but instead, need help from a professional.

Fix 5: Check Audio

If your hardware controls are working, check whether you can play songs or connect your phone using Android Auto. If Android Auto keeps disconnecting, you can check out this guide.
