HP will be monitoring printers to find out what type of paper is being used

-

Climate change is quickly becoming one of the biggest challenges of our time and businesses around the world are being encouraged to reduce their carbon footprint. HP has joined in with this fight by launching an initiative to monitor what paper is being used in its printers.HP will be monitoring printers to find out what type of paper is being used

The reason or purpose behind this is to ensure that the printer paper being used in its printers isn’t promoting deforestation according to https://inkevolved.com/. It is one of the biggest issues concerning printers now, other prevalent issues include why your printer won’t print black or in color.

The CEO of HP, Enrique Lores went on to state that “People have the concept that when customers use pages or paper to print, they are killing trees, they’re using trees and they’re really helping deforestation in the world, it is actually the opposite”.

The reason for this is that the company is going to ‘make printing forest positive’. If the printer picks up that paper hasn’t come from one of a select few forests that were planted with the specific purpose of becoming paper, they will then plant a tree in order to compensate for this.

The monitoring of your printer could, however, raise some issues with those who are concerned with privacy, however, on the whole, most of us will be content that the data being monitored is far from intrusive and it is all being collected for the greater good and is having a positive impact on our environment.

However, supporting this initiative doesn’t come free to the consumer. If you wish to support HP with this environmentally friendly initiative, you will have to purchase their own brand printer paper. Which unfortunately is around 25% more expensive than some alternatives that are currently available on the market.

However, the way around this would be to instead donate to a charity that is revolved around planting trees which means you might not be incurring an extra 25% cost.

HP as an industry leader has also launched this initiative in the hope that it will encourage other giants in the industry to follow suit and to launch their own respective initiatives in order to collectively as an industry reduce the carbon footprint and to be as environmentally friendly as possible and this is proving to be effective.

Despite the added costs, the initiative has shown HP in a good light and many have praised the company for its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. They have already reached their goal of 100% zero-deforestation with HP printer paper an impressive two years ago.

However, HP has been up there with some of the biggest companies in the world for decades now in terms of their commitment to sustainable products and a reduction of their carbon footprint. This led tot hem being named as one of the 10 ‘top corporate green giants’ back in 2007 and the no.1 high tech company when it came to Newsweek’s list of 1800 Greenest companies in the same year.
