In this article, we will be discussing both methods to set the default OS on a Windows dual-boot computer.
Setting Default OS Using System Properties
The first way to set a default OS on a Windows dual-boot computer is using System Properties. To set a default OS on a Windows dual-boot computer using System Properties, follow the steps given below-
- Firstly, open theย Start Menuย by pressing theย Windowsย key on your keyboard.
- In theย Start Menu,ย search forย System Propertiesย and hitย Enterย to openย System Properties.ย Now in theย System Propertiesย app, head to theย Advancedย tab.
- Under theย Startup and Recoveryย section in theย Advancedย tab, click onย Settings.ย
- You will be headed to a newย Startup and Recoveryย window.
- Click on the drop-down menu belowย Default operating system.ย
- From the drop-down menu, select the operating system that you want to set as your default OS.
- After you have done this, click onย OK, and close theย System Propertiesย window.
This will see the OS as the default, and every time you boot your PC this OS will be loaded if you didnโt select an option.
Setting Default OS From System Configuration
If you donโt want to go with the System Properties method that we have listed above, then you can use System Configuration to set the default OS on a Windows dual-boot computer. To use System Configuration to set default OS, follow the steps given below-
- Open theย Run Dialog Boxย on your PC. You can do so by pressing theย Windows + Rย key combo on your keyboard.
- In theย Run Dialog Box,ย typeย msconfigย and hitย Enterย or click onย OKย to open theย System Configurationย app.
- Now in theย System Configurationย app, head to theย Bootย tab.
- This will show you both the operating systems that you have installed on your PC. You will also e able to see which OS is the current OS and which is the default OS from here.
- Now select the OS that you want to set as default. After doing so, click onย Set As Default.ย If you already see theย Default OSย label for that operating system, then it means that the OS is already your default OS.
- After doing so, click onย Applyย and then click onย OK.ย
- You will get a prompt asking you to restart your PC to make the changes. If you donโt want to restart right now, then you can click onย Exit without restart.ย If you want to restart your PC now, then you can click onย Applyย and your PC will be restarted.
