Jeff Bezos Beats Bill Gates in the competition of World’s Richest Man
Forbes is a magazine which started tracking the world’s richest men in the year 1987. Since then, six people have held the title of the World’s Richest Person 2017. The most popular richest man is Bill Gates since he endorses charity a lot. But now, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has overthrown Bill Gates to become the seventh person to hold the title of the world’s richest person with a fortune of $90.6 billion for the first time.
Thursday was the historic day when Amazon.com stock opened up 1.6% and thereby adding $1.3 billion to Jeff Bezos’ net wealth. Jeff Bezos first appeared on the Forbes 400 in the year 1998 which was a year after Amazon opened to the public with a $1.6 billion fortune. Then, in the list of the world’s richest person published by Forbes in the March of 2017, Jeff Bezos ranked third with a fortune of $72.8 billion.
Jeff Bezos could have never made it to the top of the list of the world’s richest person if Bill Gates hadn’t donated such large portion of his fortune to philanthropy. Bill Gates has given away an estimated amount of $32.9 billion through the end of 2016.
Jeff Bezos has attended Princeton and worked at a hedge fund before he started his online bookseller in a garage in Seattle in 1994.
